MUSEUM NOTES 1-17-2013

Museum Board Members and Staff and extremely excited about the opportunity to work with the County and Canadian ISD regarding our exhibit redesign project.  We are extremely grateful for their interest and support of our extensive project.  This combined effort/partnership will allow us to achieve so much more than what we could have on our own.  Not only will we be able to implement a completely new design and layout for the museum’s exhibits but we will also be able to add interactive technology components as well which will be both informative and engaging for our visitors.  We have struggled with inadequate on-site storage for years and will finally be able to address and resolve those issues as well.  As we wait for details to be finalized, Dr. Bill Green continues to research early pioneer families of Hemphill County and contacting descendants hoping to acquire artifacts, information and photographs to add to the exhibit design plan.  We welcome family photographs and histories so please don’t hesitate to contact the museum if you have something we can incorporate.  A few things we are eager to find include bits or spurs made by local blacksmith J.C. Studer.  These items may be marked by the Studer’s brand which was an anvil.  We are also interesting in locating diplomas from the old Canadian Academy which would date back to about 1904-1913.  If you have information or artifacts relating to early Hemphill County history you would like to share with us, please give us a call at 806-323-6548.

Our next craft project for kids will be held after school on Thursday, February 7th.  We invite kids from 2nd grade through 6th grade to participate in fun Valentine’s Day crafts from 3:45-5:30.  For more information, please call museum office.
