SUMMER IS COMING TO A CLOSE
Ah, summer is coming to a close and school is ready to start. It’s a time of year that parents rejoice and children dread. Back to school always reminds me of a Staples commercial from 1996. There’s a father skipping and dancing in the school supply aisle with two children behind him with their heads down and dragging their feet. The Christmas song, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” is playing in the background. The announcer comes in and says, “It’s that time of year again…they’re going back!!!” I highly recommend you watch it on YouTube for a good laugh.
Going back to school gives everyone with children a sense of routine and normalcy. I know I struggle with finding things for my son to do during the summer so he’s not calling me every hour to see when I’m coming home. However, last school year was anything but routine and normal. Just a year ago the Canadian ISD was instructing us on the changes they instituted for COVID-19 precautions. It was not fun for anyone, especially the teachers who had to learn to teach remotely and in the class room at the same time. It was only a year ago and yet it seems like forever ago.
As our children prepare to go back to school next week, I am hoping and praying that they have a great year. I know our school district and teachers will do their best to keep our children safe and healthy, as well as providing them with a great education. We are surviving through a historic pandemic that historians will discuss and write about for years in the future. Let us remember where we were 12 months ago and where we are today. It was a booger of a year and I’m ready for it to be in the past. Good luck to all of our students, teachers, coaches, principles and superintendent!
