"BONES OF TEXAS" A PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBIT BY MORGAN PAGE & DUSTIN RICE

New in our gallery room is “Bones of Texas,” a photographic exhibit by Morgan Page and Dustin Rice. The couple traveled all over the back roads of our great state, documenting the physical remnants of abandoned towns. Along with their photographs, Dustin wrote several accounts about the places they visited. One such piece was about the Hardin Family of Baylor County. The first of the family to arrive in Baylor County was W.B. Hardin. W.B. survived the Comanche only to be killed by a neighbor over a steer in 1889. He had several children including a son Leonard. Leonard had a son and twin daughters, Odessa and Elvira. Both of the daughters were widows by the age of 40. Leonard was killed in a wagon accident in 1947. Later, when the sisters were in their 80s, they enjoyed drinking whiskey, sitting on their front porch, and shooting at their brother’s 1964 Pontiac. Morgan photographed that car riddled with bullet holes, a physical reminder of a colorful family. This is a very interesting and moving exhibit. Due to Morgan’s and Dustin’s schedule, instead of an opening reception, they will provide a program about their project in late August.
