Discover History At Canadian River Valley Pioneer Museum!

Museum Homepage Banner

We have reopened the museum part-time this week. We are open noon to 5pm on Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. However, due to Governor Abbot’s guidance on continued social distancing, we are only allowing 5 visitors in at a time. We have also blocked off our interactive exhibits/activities. Should the coronavirus situation becomes worse in our area, we may temporarily close again. Hopefully, it won’t come to that and we will be able to fully open in the near future.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel or postpone many of this year’s events. We have cancelled Pioneer Day on June 13th, the exhibit on Randall Carver, and the exhibit about Texas Settlers and their Buildings. We have also cancelled the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street Water/Ways exhibit scheduled for next year. We have not yet cancelled the History Day Camp scheduled in July. We have extended Michael Longhofer’s art exhibit until the end of August and we have pushed back the High School Art Students art show to September. The following events are still scheduled to occur: former Texas State Historian Bill O’Neal book reading and signing, our Membership Appreciation, our annual Quilt Show, our Gala, and the Christmas Ornament Crafts Workshop. Also, the Canadian Arts Alliance has scheduled their Dinner Theater and Art Show and Sell later this year at the museum. So, I sure hope we get to have some fun in the Fall!

The winner of our Meme Contest was Jay Michelsen with “Straight Outta…Canadian Texas.” You can pre-order your very own t-shirt until June 5th for $20. We are also raffling off a quilt made with historic photographs from our collection. Raffle tickets are $5 a piece or $20 for five tickets. You can come in or go online to pre-order your t-shirt and to purchase raffle tickets.

Thank you all for your support while we were temporarily closed. I hope everyone enjoyed our articles and videos!
