MUSEUM NOTES: APRIL 9, 2019

CAPTURED MOMENTS

I sure hope you will join us this Saturday, April 13th, 2pm-5pm, for Page Steed’s reception of her beautiful photography exhibit. .

Page spent many days in her youth wondering in the great outdoors. She remembers catching fireflies in the summer nights after fishing all day on camping trips with her family. This love for the great outdoors has carried over into her art. She shares with the audience her passion for God’s creations through the lens of her camera.

We hope you will join us for a glass of wine or beer, light refreshments, and excellent artwork. Come meet Page and listen to her tell the story behind her “Captured Moments.”

THE JONES GIRLS OF WHEELER COUNTY

New to the gift shop is Ruth Rogers Beasley’s book, “The Jones Girls of Wheeler County, Texas: A Dual Memoir by Millie Jones Porter and Leanna Jones Harvey.” What began as a puzzle of passages from four disparate books is now reordered into a shared life story in two parts. “The Jones Girls” utilizes two unpublished memoirs and two published books: Leanna Jones Harvey’s 1940 novel, "Generation unto Generation," and Millie Jones Porter’s 1945 area history, "Memory Cups of Panhandle Pioneers." Each sister tells her version of a shared family history. Two memoirs verify the truth of Leanna’s “novel,” and Millie’s personal “memory cups” add color and context to a vivid depiction of life in the early Texas Panhandle.

Ruth, the grandniece of Millie and granddaughter of Leanna, has another book out, a revised edited version of Millie’s book, titled “Memory Cups of the Texas Panhandle.” She will have a reading of this book at the museum later in July.
