MUSEUM NOTES: APRIL 22, 2019

MUSEUM HAS HAD A BUSY AND INVOLVED APRIL

I am proud to announce just how busy and involved the River Valley Pioneer Museum was last couple of weeks. On Tuesday the 9th, the Hemphill County Historical Commission gathered here for their quarterly meeting. The commission is pursuing some terrific projects, and the museum will be a great asset for researching those projects.

On Wednesday morning the 10th, the 3rd grade from Baker Elementary visited. These kids were amazing! They were great listeners and very excited to learn about the history of their hometown. Many thanks to the teachers for coordinating the trip here!

Then, on Saturday the 13th, we hosted an artist reception for Page L. Steed’s photography exhibit, “Captured Moments.” If you didn’t get a chance to attend the reception, don’t worry about it. On Tuesday, May 7th, the museum is hosting a Brown Bag Luncheon. Page will deliver her presentation, “How to Shoot Things and Save Bullets.”

Last week was just as busy. The 2nd grade from Canadian Elementary is visited on Wednesday. We also had a group of women from Cheyenne, Oklahoma, who made a special trip here on Thursday.

CANADIAN DOWNTOWN CRUISE NIGHTS
The museum will be open for the next Downtown Cruise Night on Saturday May 18th, 5pm-7pm. So, if you like to look at old cars, you might like to look at other old things. Come check out our exhibits!

MARY B. ISAACS SCHOOL
TThe museum is searching for a photograph of the Mary B. Isaacs School that once stood on Main and 9th Street. It was built in 1907 and closed in 1955. Please call or come by if you have one.

GALLERY ROOM RENTALS
With high school graduation coming soon, don’t forget that the museum has a great gallery room for rent. We just remodeled our kitchen and it is fabulous! Come by to check it out or give us a call at 806-323-6548.
