MUSEUM NOTES: May 17, 2017

SCHOOL TOUR

Thursday, May 11th, the Baker School 4th graders spent a busy morning at the museum. Each class participated in five different stations covering Indians, Railroad, Cowboys, One Room Schoolhouse and Military. The morning was finished with a very challenging scavenger hunt covering a broad range of Hemphill County history. We could not have done this without great volunteers, they included: Warren and Jane Rivers, Sally Anderson, Maureen “Mo” Scott, Paula Forrest, Ilene Floyd and John McGarr. I hope the students had fun, we sure did.

EXHIBITS

“Wedding Dresses of the Past” will be up through May 19th. This has been a very interesting and popular exhibit.

June and July will bring artist Dallas Mayer. The title of her show is “Thorns and Horns, Where the Buffalo Roamed.” On June 1st, the museum will host an artist reception from 5-7pm. Dallas will have painting demonstrations throughout the evening. Museum guest will also be entertained with some cowboy poetry. Mark your calendar and come see us for an evening of fun.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT

If you are an amateur photographer, we would love to show your work. This is open to all ages and subject matter. Bring your 8 x 10 photographs to the museum no later than May 26th. This show will hang through the month of June and museum visitors will vote for their favorite photograph. Please pass the word; we would love to have as many entries as possible.

GALLERY ROOM
If you are needing a place for your business meeting or special event, consider the museum gallery room. Our gallery room provides a nice open space, catering kitchen, and tables and chairs for a reasonable fee. Do you need a few table and chairs for your gathering at home? We can provide those too; give us a call at 806-323-6548, we will be glad to help you.
